SoundON provides BC presenters and artists with direct support to get back to doing what they do best: creating unforgettable live music experiences.
SoundON is not just a relief and recovery campaign, it’s a whole new way to discover music in BC through uniquely curated, online experiences. Streaming live performances, DJ sets and workshops, all on one free website, SoundON will have something for everyone to enjoy. Each show will be curated by a BC presenter, feature BC artists, and showcase the incredible, diverse talent our province has to offer.
How it Works
Supported by an initial $200,000 in funding from Music BC, Creative BC, and the Province of BC, with additional contributions from public and private partners, SoundON will provide grants to presenters and curating partners to produce live streamed concerts, DJ shows, workshops, and other music programming featuring BC artists.
Presenters can apply to receive funds to support their production and programming through a new SoundON Music Resiliency Fund administered by Music BC. All presenters in BC will have access to this funding through a juried process. Presenters will be expected to curate an amazing lineup, produce and promote their event—and deliver an unforgettable show! SoundON will showcase, amplify, and promote each event through our platform, media partners, and to a global audience on livestream.
Every performance will be free to watch, each artist will receive a guaranteed fee, and all crew, presenters, and designers will be paid for their services. In partnership with Charitable Impact and Music Heals, SoundON will also provide a charitable donations page where audiences can make a donation to support BC artists, presenters, and our sector’s recovery. All funds raised will go back into producing more shows, providing direct funding to presenters, artists, crew and production, venues, and supporting charitable organizations across BC.
SoundON will launch in July 2020 and will unfold over three stages:
Stage 1 will support smaller scale, pre-recorded and livestreamed shows
Stage 2 will move to in-venue performances, produced safely without audiences
Stage 3 will support larger-scale productions and ongoing SoundON programming
At every stage, both during the pandemic and beyond, SoundON will provide direct support to our artists and our industry; and all shows will be produced in compliance with BC’s Health and Safety regulations.
SoundON is produced and run by a volunteer collective from BC’s music sector, with initial funding support from Music BC, Creative BC, and the Province of BC. This is a unique, cross-sector collaboration between public, private, and community partners committed to helping get our sector back to work, maintaining our capacity, and preparing us for recovery.
